Almost there! - December 13, 2010
Hi Everybody,
I hope your holiday season is not too frenzied thus far! And, if it is, then why not play your copy of Pacific Tales and go to a happy place for a little bit? Through the miracle on online shopping I've remained essentially stress-free so far, but I think the UPS lady is thinking about keying my car...
The recording of the new CD, "The Melody of the Sea", is going well. I spent time in the studio last week and have some time booked between Christmas and New Years to hopefully wrap it up. I'm pleased with the new batch of songs and I hope you will be as well! I'll send out purchase information via the TL Guitar e-mail list and on facebook when everything's ready.
Speaking of the new CD, I posted a rough mix of one of the tracks on the TL Guitar website under the 'music' tab. The track is called "Locked Away" and be sure to click on the song title to learn more about what it's about.
By the way, if you are a facebook user then consider doing a search for "TL Guitar"-- and if you like my music then be sure to "like" me on facebook! I'm trying to post different content on the facebook page than what you'll find here on the main website. There are some performance videos and photos of the recording of the new CD lurking on facebook awaiting your discovery!
Wishing the best to you and yours!

Tape is Rolling in Carlsbad! - July 31, 2010
Hi Everybody!
Well, tape is finally rolling in Carlsbad for my next CD--actually, it would be more accurate to say that hard drives are spinning (old habits die hard...). I've got 14 tunes to record over the next few months, and the goal is to have the new CD out by the end of the year. The title will be "The Melody of the Sea", which is drawn from an amazing interpretive painting of Saint Cecilia (the Patron Saint of music) created by Sherry Chen. I'm aiming to provide an album that connects to my previous work, yet also travels in new musical directions. I'll be playing my brand new 12-string guitar (built by Dennis Lake) on one or two of the tracks, along with my trusty Lowden for many of the tracks.
I will post rough mixes of a couple tunes on my website when the time is right.
A Hui Hou,

TLGuitar News! - May 7, 2010
Aloha Everybody!
I hope that spring is treating you well! The weather has been just about perfect here in SoCal--sunny, low-70s, everything is green and growing... paradise!
First off, I want to extend a big 'thank you' to all my new friends in the Pacific Northwest who came out for the shows and workshops in March. A particular thanks to our gracious and wonderful hosts (Marcie, Jean, Tara and Dianne). Mark Nelson and I had a great time, though I still can't believe I lost three consecutive coin tosses to Mark-o to determine who would play first... different coin, different tosser, different caller, it made no difference--I went 0 for 3! A highlight for me was the chance to take the stage with Tara and Dianne--aka Cabin Fever NW--and play one of their new tunes at the close of the Bellingham show--thanks ladies! You really owe it to yourself to check out
www.cabinfevernw.com so you can tell your friends you were a fan before these two got uber famous!
Things are busy here--I'm working on a new CD (due this fall), and gearing up for my opening gig for John Keawe here in San Diego on Thursday, June 17th. If you haven't heard of John Keawe then you need to get to it--he's an amazing slack key guitarist and a wonderful person. And, if you have heard him then I'm sure that you're a fan and you've already bought tickets for one of his west coast shows in June. For present and future John Keawe fans in the San Diego area, check out
www.amsdconcerts.com to purchase tickets. Also, check out John's site,
www.johnkeawe.com to learn more about this Grammy-winning musician.
And, as if hearing John's singing and guitar playing isn't enough of a treat, his beautiful and wonderful wife, Hope Keawe, usually performs hula during a few of his songs.
If you make it to John's San Diego show then please feel free to introduce yourself and say hello! I'll be selling and signing CDs during the breaks.
A hui hou,
TL
TL Opening for John Keawe in San Diego 6/17/2010 - January 18, 2010
Hi Everybody,
I am thrilled to announce that I will be opening for John Keawe when he performs in San Diego on June 17, 2010. John is one of my favorite players and has been a major influence so this is quite an honor. Check out
www.johnkeawe.com and mark your calendars.
The show is organized by Acoustic Music San Diego. If you haven't attended any of the AMSD shows, Carey Driscoll does a wonderful job of booking a diverse range of artists, and the venue (a grand old church in Normal Heights) is really inspiring.
John's performance was just announced, so keep an eye on
www.amsdconcerts.com for ticket information.
A Hui Hou,

Upcoming Concerts in the Pacific Northwest - January 14, 2010
I hope 2010 is off to a great start for you. I've been busy working on songs for the new CD (tentatively titled "Melody of the Sea"), which should be out later this year.
For those of you located in the Pacific Northwest, I want to let you know that I will be performing in your neck of the woods in March. I will be sharing the stage with Mark Nelson, a wonderfully talented multi-instrumentalist from Oregon who plays guitar, ukulele, and Appalachian dulcimer (also, he apparantly plays "inspired" percussion on an antique Primo beer bottle when called upon to do so) . He's a great performer and an all-around cool guy! You can learn more about Mark at his website,
www.mark-o.com. I will be posting more detailed information in the next week, but save the dates and come out and see us if you can!
Here are the dates:
Friday March 12th: Olympia, WA @ 8 PM
Saturday, March 13th: Seattle, WA @ 8 PM (with afternoon workshop)
Sunday, March 14th: Bellingham, WA @ 4:30 PM
Stay tuned for more info!
A hui hou,

TL Performing at "Journey of Artists" in August/September - July 20, 2009
Hello everybody! I hope the summer is treating you well so far and that you are managing to beat the heat.
For those of you in Southern California, I want to let you know I will be performing at the Carlsbad Art District "Journey of Artists" Honors Show on four dates in August and September. I will be playing from 4-5 PM on August 13, 20, 27 and September 3. There are a whole bunch of free concerts and 100+ displays to check out.
The Journey of Artists show is described as "...an eclectic mix of art from early childhood to top professionals... represented artists are by invitation only--all media". The list of free concerts is quite varied as well. You can view the program flyer at
www.sculptureschool.net.
I was a late addition to the program so I'm not listed on the flyer but fear not, I will be there on Thursdays at 4 PM! So, if you're looking for a great way to end the day then why not come out, check out the exhibits, listen to some GREAT music, and then catch dinner at one of the countless nearby restaurants... and maybe a sunset?
In addition to playing music you are already familiar with from Pacific Tales, I will be previewing a handful of new tunes that will go on the next record. I will also have CDs on hand for purchase.
The gallery is located at 300 Carlsbad Village Drive (in the Village Faire Shopping Center), suites 103/105.

"Pacific Tales" Now Available! - January 7, 2009
I am excited to tell you that "Pacific Tales" is now available for purchase at CD Baby. I've posted the link under the 'Buy' section of my site. You can purchase the CD and have it shipped or immediately download the MP3s. I am particularly pleased with how the packaging came out, so if you can wait a few days then I might suggest that you order the CD since it also includes notes about each song, as well as some really cool photos of people and places that inspired the tunes. If you like what you hear then please be sure to write a review on CD Baby--people really do read those!
Updated CD Release Info - December 15, 2008
The artwork for the CD was approved last week and it sounds like the CDs should be shipped by December 23rd. I will update everybody when they will be available from CD Baby.
Song Notes - December 3, 2008
Under the 'Music' tab of the site, if you click on the song title then you can read the liner notes that will appear with the CD. The CD will have similar notes for all twelve tracks.
Guitar Used On "Night Trips" - December 3, 2008
Somebody inquired about what kind of guitar produces the low tone of the song "Night Trips". That was played on a Lowden baritone guitar. It has a longer scale (neck) and is tuned 2 1/2 steps lower than a standard guitar.
CD Release Date - December 3, 2008
A few people have asked when the CD will be available. At this point, I expect to receive the CDs somewhere around December 17th. In terms of where to get the CD, I will post a link to CD Baby once they have CDs in their warehouse.
Welcome! - December 1, 2008
Hello! Thanks for checking out tlguitar.com. We are just getting the website up and running. Keep checking back for new information about the release of Pacific Tales (available mid-December from CD Baby and other fine retailers).
